Nature has worked for millions of years designing complex structural systems. What we see today is the product of countless advances and technological innovations trialed and tested on the field. And it seems we can identify certain laws, patterns and principles repeated across scales, from the atom to the universe. The search for efficiency and energy-saving strategies has favored integral tension systems over compression systems. The balance of forces lightens the load of matter and energy, favoring dynamic geometries with low environmental impact.

With our work as architects, we try to internalize and learn the ways in which nature behaves and, through the materials, design and produce structural artifacts where efficiency is the norm. Learning instead of teaching. Integrating instead of forcing. At LHRC we study the legacy of heterogeneous architects[DL1] , with the same level of commitment as Mongolian yurts, Frei Otto’s roof structures, or birds’ nests.

Thus, we understand ‘Light Architecture’ as a message of environmental awareness, unburdening human beings of the production of spaces and a widening the participation of matter, biological bodies, technologies, and natures. ‘Light Architecture’ is one that seeks simplicity through a tensile equilibrium of heterogeneous efforts.

We have a permanent office in Barcelona and a testing laboratory, with the team spread over Barcelona, Madrid and Amsterdam, in constant search of collaborations and learning opportunities.
